The hotel was torn down by North Korea after floating around in four countries for 30 years

Speaking of hotels, it seems that everyone has a hotel experience. It is worth mentioning that there was a hotel floating on the sea for 30 years, because no one took it over, in the end, it lost its “value” and had to be dismantled by North Korea violently, leaving “no bones”. In fact, this is a cruise ship hotel.

It is more of a cruise hotel than a hotel. It is believed to have been created by Australian designer Doug Karka. At that time, he wanted people to have a beautiful view of the sea from the cruise ship, so he began to conceive and design the prototype hotel in 1980. At this point, Doug’s father supported his son’s idea and gave him $20,000 in start-up capital directly. After eight years, the hotel was finally completed.

In fact, given the science and technology of the time, it was very rare to successfully build a hotel on such a large scale on the sea. In addition to the difficulty, this cruise hotel is relatively luxurious. The 174-room hotel, which includes some top-tier rooms and luxury doubles, costs in the thousands of dollars per night, according to its records. Meanwhile, the seven-storey cruise hotel has a nightclub, bar, library, gym and restaurant.

Glass Windows will also be installed at the base of the hotel so that every visitor can have a view of the sea from every location. Guests can enjoy 360° views of the sea without breaking a sweat. When the hotel opened, the average room cost about $1,100. In those days, that might have been a monthly wage for a working class, but that didn’t stop most of the fashionably wealthy from joining in. At that time, in order to ensure the safety of every tenant, the hotel will also send a special ship to pick up guests. Word may spread from one hotel to another, so many customers who have stayed at the hotel think it is a great opportunity to show their financial strength. After all, the hotel is a “secret paradise” for the upper class of society, as the friends who stay at the hotel are either rich or expensive, high-ranking government officials or celebrities.

However, a sudden hurricane destroyed many of the hotel’s facilities. As Doug was preparing to restore the hotel, divers told him they had found more than 100 tons of World War II-era explosives at the bottom of the cruise hotel. This means that this untimed bomb could bring many threats to customers’ lives, which is truly shocking. Taking this into account, a lot of rich scared scared, threatened not to go to this hotel consumption. So, a year later, it had to go through the pain of selling the cruise hotel at a low price to a Japanese company

Knowing that the cruise hotel would not be popular in Singapore, the Japanese company simply placed it in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and renamed it the Saigon Floating Hotel. But as more upscale hotels appear in Ho Chi Minh City, stale guests are no longer proud to stay there. After 2000, Hyundai Motor Group bought the hotel and named it Haegeumgang Hotel. However, after eight years, due to various reasons and poor management, the hotel had to close down

After that, no replacement was found, so long ago that the hotel had not been repaired and was covered with rust. That means buying the hotel could cost more to fix up than it cost to build. Considering this, many businessmen also withdrew from bidding for the hotel. After weighing the pros and cons, North Korea decided to dismantle the cruise ship. Indeed, the rare sea cruise hotel has had its moments of glory, from being built as a beacon to “junk” on the border between North and South Korea. The sea cruise hotel appeared to be officially retired from history the moment it was demolished. If not, many will see the hotel reduced to a worthless ruin.
